RC Public Library says new technology is very popular [Black Hills Fox]

E-books have only been available to the general public at Rapid City Public Libraries for a half a year.

But in that time the library director says they have seen a lot of demand for the popular new technology. She says just over 26,000 e-books and audio books have been downloaded at the public libraries since July, a number that came as a quite a surprise.

Greta Chapman says, “New technologies, you need to have a sense of what the community is looking for. When we put those services out, immediately, within the hour of having these services, we had e-books checked out. And when you go online, you’ll see that a good portion – 80, 90 percent – of those books are checked out.”

Chapman says the e-books are available for a variety of readers, except the I-Pad and the Kindle. She says the library hopes to have those services available within the next year.
