No School Discovery Day teaches kids about healthy eating [Black Hills Fox]

Kids throughout the country had a day off of school because of Martin Luther King Jr. Day Monday but that didn’t stop a few youngsters here in the Black Hills from learning a few things.

It was a packed house at the Rapid City Public Library’s No School Discovery Day. Monday’s special program was on healthy eating and nutrition for kids and their parents. Sharon Guthmiller put on the lesson and says with the growing concern surrounding childhood obesity it is important to tackle this issue at an early age.

Guthmiller says, “So many of our habits are formed when we’re very, very young. And they follow through. So, in many times, we find if we can educate the children, they go home and educate the parents too about something that they’ve missed.” There will be another No School Discovery Day Tuesday at both library location, they’ll be talking about birds.
